Karen Vail

Karen Vail (schwing), the Queen of St. Charles County, the Grand Tetons on the Flat Plains of Radio (boing boing), has lived in St. Charles forever, much to the chagrin of St. Charles.

Karen has four children, two of whom - Gary and Amy - still live at home and two grandsons. Here's a picture of the family on their recent Alaska cruise.

She graduated from St. Charles High School, received her BA from Lindenwood College with a double major (Communication Arts and Communication Disorders) and a minor in psychology; her MS in Communication Disorders is from Fontbonne College.

Karen's radio experience includes stints at KWRE/Warrenton, KHTR-FM, KMOX, KSD-FM and KUSA-AM, and KLOU-FM; she started at The Big 550 on The Large Morning Show in the Afternoon July 7, 1997, along with Frank, Terry, and Dan.

Clearly she can't get along with anyone!

In addition to her grueling duties as Traffic Reporter and Player on TLMSITA, Karen works in Speech Pathology in the St. Charles City School District and is developing a Speech Pathology Program at Logos School in St. Louis County.

Her favorites include mountains, the Shriners Hospital for Children, the St. Charles Mounted Police Foundation, the Great Plains, cold weather, hunting, trap and skeet shooting, fast cars and fast horses, good food (German, Italian, Greek, Native American dishes and Steak 'n Shake), anything Route 66, polite, friendly, approachable and honest people, and good stout beer!

Karen hates Elvis, the Honeymooners, the BeeGees, Johnny Mathis, Chinese food, fried chicken, peas, creamed corn, and cleaning stoves and refrigerators. In other words, almost everything Frank likes!

Karen's also a pet person: one Tennessee Walking/Riding horse, Dunbar (his signed photo is at left); one Collie dog, Lakota; one cat, Spookie; two rabbits, Ollie and Oreo; one husband, Merle; and "Merle's pain in the a** chow, who will not use the dog house when it rains."

Her words.
